FAQ

Go

  1. Joseki and Tesuji are too confusing for me, will I ever use them in Go?

Yes, but you don`t need to strain yourself learning them. You may actually play them without realizing it. You can learn Joeski from books by Koesiedo publishing company. The problems in the books are just examples.

  2. What are rankings?

Rankings determine the Go player`s strength. Think of it as a number line. "K" are the negative numbers. The lowest is usually 31K. Being a "K(kyu)" rank is not bad, it just means that you still have to learn. 31-25K means a complete beginner. 24-15K is someone who understands the game, but may have trouble with Joseki, and Tesuji. 14-8K means someone is really good at the game, but they often make some mistakes in their game. 8-1K means that you just need to gain more wisdom in the game. 1-9D(dan) means that you are a master.

  3. KGS Ranking [?] or [-]

If you have a [?] ranking on KGS that means that you need to play more games to get a ranking. You have played too little, or you have an even number of wins and losses.  If you have a [-] that means that you are right between 1K, and 1D. If you have a [16k?]  that means that you are around [16k], but the computer system can`t decide. You need to play more ranked games to get a solid rank!
